Repubblica & Glendower

2015
Villasor, Sardinia, IT

Repubblica & Glendower is a temporary installation that sits on an abandoned lot on Via Repubblica near the center of the small town of Villasor. The only remnants of the building that once existed there, were parts of a tiled bathroom still stuck to a wall. The piece is an exploration into decaying architecture... I wanted to embrace what was left there... but also infuse something new into the space. In the piece two distinctly different types of architecture are combined to explore the idea of what is "sacred architecture" and worthy of preservation and what is deemed suitable for abandonment. For the piece, photographs were taken at the site and also of prominent architectural elements of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Los Angeles. The images were then reinstalled at the site using street art techniques for its temporality. In a space where kids go to smoke... stray dogs gather and trash seems to collect readily... the piece will slowly start to change, destruct and decay over time.
